I originally wrote this in reply to a very talented girl---Veronica's blog. Then, I realized it could be written longer to become sort of a prose. So I added few things and posted it.

I think everyone has their own reason to listen to music. Some listen because they like it; however, the reason for the favor sill varies. I once ask Mom why she bought Mozart’s music. She replied quite simply, “Because it’s famous and everyone’s buying it.” It’s like a trend or brand. Some of the people listen because the pieces or the composer obtain quite much fame. Their motivation is as simple as it is. Perhaps, after listening to the music, they may be fond of the performer or the composer. They may tell you that they love him/her so much. But, who knows the initial idea of listening to the pieces?

I guess I was very concerned about the main motive of doing something. Last year, Miller’s art works were transported to Taiwan for exhibition. Tons of people lined up for the display. I was dragged there due to my parents, and I was quite annoyed, not because of the crowded people, but for their intensions to be there. I asked several people, “Why did you come here for the display? What captured you of Miller’s paintings? ” And most of them answered with “I don’t know, but it’s famous.” Damn right. FAMOUS. It’s like some kind of fashion. People went there because they were afraid they were unable to catch the trend.

Therefore, I think it may be one of the main reasons why Joshua’s performances were so popular in concert hall instead of the station. Perhaps half of the people went there for his fame and popularity. They may fall in love with his performance and the composer’s music. But it all happened after the “fame”. I think it is inevitable though. This sort of things continued every single day. I must say, sometimes I’m used to it. Sometimes I’m not. The only explanation I gave was “individual difference.”

Let’s take the fashion world for example. When you but Chanel’s suit or maybe a Louis Vuitton handbag, have you ever thought of the history and value they represent?

Did you concerned about CoCo Gabrielle Chanel’s persistence for clothes designs? She was considered weird and unfit in the society, since she was from the lowest of the society. Most of the people today had a fancy for brands, in that they relish the feelings the brands brought. They gave people a superb of noble highness among others. “Right. I am special. I am noble. I am way better than the averages.” They may not tell you straight in the face, but they wear it as much as they can.

For those who truly care for the value of something, you are not alone. I’m not against popularity or fame. They both, in deed, do bring interesting things in life, either ugly or beautiful ones. I just want to let you know. Perhaps it’s time to think of the real value of your life. Not for all those values built from the outside.
